Vamana Jayanti - Appearance day of Lord Vamana

Vamana Jayanti marks the appearance day of Lord Vamana, the Supreme Lord who incarnated as the son of Kashyapa and Aditi in the form of a dwarf Brahmana (Vamana) to rescue Bali Maharaja, a great devotee born into a demon family.

As sung by Sri Jayadeva Gosvami:

chalavasi vikramane balim adbhuta-vamana
pada-nakha-nira-janita-jana-pavana
kesava dhrta-vamana-rupa jaya jagadisa hare

"O Kesava! O Lord of the universe! O Lord Hari, who assumed the form of a dwarf Brahmana! All glories to You! O wonderful dwarf, by Your immense steps You deceive King Bali, and by the sacred Ganges water emanating from the nails of Your lotus feet, You purify and deliver all living beings within this world."

On this auspicious day, devotees observe a complete fast until noon, in addition to the Ekadashi fast, as a sign of devotion and respect.
