The Sacred Abode of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy

Harekrishna

Nestled in the midst of Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple is a beacon of divine grace and timeless devotion. A place where history and spirituality intertwine, this sacred temple has stood for centuries, radiating the eternal presence of Lord Krishna. Whether you’re here seeking solace, divine blessings, or spiritual growth, the temple offers a sanctuary for all who seek the Krishna’s grace.

The origins of the temple trace back to a time beyond our reckoning, believed to be from the 7th or 8th century. According to ancient scriptures, the divine deity Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy manifested as a Swayambhu (self-manifested) form on an Udbhava Shila (a naturally formed stone), radiating immense spiritual power. Revered across centuries, this divine presence was forgotten over time only to be rediscovered around 400 years ago by devoted seekers.
In the year 1907, Maharaja Sri Krishan Prasad Jagirdar generously donated 47.19 acres of land to the presiding Deity. The temple came under the jurisdiction of the Endowment Department in 1993, and in 2002, the Yadagirigutta Temple adopted this temple, furthering its development and spiritual significance.
This ancient temple, standing as a testament to the faith of countless generations, continues to be a source of divine blessings and spiritual solace. Here, the past and the present converge in an eternal embrace, reminding us of the sacred continuity of devotion.

It All Started
with One Blessing

Harekrishna
The sacred Pancharatrika texts, especially the Ahirbudhnya Samhita and Ishvara Samhita, speak of a timeless moment of divine devotion. Lord Shiva, in deep contemplation and reverence, offered his prayer to Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, invoking the Sri Mantra Raja Pada Stotram—a hymn filled with the purest expressions of surrender and adoration. Through this prayer, Lord Shiva acknowledged the eternal truth that all souls are servants of the Supreme.
Moved by this boundless devotion, Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, in his infinite grace, appeared before Lord Shiva. With a gesture as profound as the prayer itself, the Lord placed his divine conch, Panchajanya, upon Shiva’s head, anointing him as Panchajanyeshwara Swamy—the eternal bearer of the sacred conch. This divine act cemented a bond between Lord Shiva and Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, a union of grace and reverence that has been celebrated through the ages.
It was upon this very ground that a temple arose, where the divine presence of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy now resides, radiating celestial strength and compassion. The Deity, a rare manifestation of Lord Krishna, stands majestically in an uncommon and awe-inspiring posture, symbolising the eternal power and benevolence of the Lord. The sacred Udbhava Shila, upon which the Lord revealed Himself, remains enshrined here—a tangible reminder of His miraculous descent into the earthly realm.
This temple, steeped in spiritual legacy, continues to draw countless devotees, each seeking the Lord’s divine blessings. Tales of miraculous interventions and transformative grace flow through its hallowed halls. With the grace of Lord Krishna, Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy remains ever watchful, offering protection, guidance, and solace to all who approach with unwavering faith and devotion.

Lord Blesses Hare Krishna to Construct a Temple

Hare Krishna
As the temple’s land faced increasing encroachments and became challenging to protect, the Endowment Department decided to entrust the renovation and management of the temple to a reputed organisation capable of constructing a new temple and ensuring its preservation. Moved by their dedication, the government appointed Hare Krishna devotees to carry out this sacred mission.
By the gracious blessing of the Lord, the Hare Krishna Movement started working on this divine opportunity, and in early 2011, the Hare Krishna Movement officially took possession of the temple and its land. This was the beginning of a sacred mission to restore, renovate, and enhance this holy site for the benefit of devotees and future generations.

Lord Narasimha

The Miraculous Protector and
Architect of His Divine Temple
Despite multiple attempts by encroachers, the Lord safeguarded His 5-acre property in Banjara Hills through His power and the efforts of His servants.
Experts identified significant Vaastu Doshas, but the Lord miraculously removed all obstacles, enabling smooth temple construction.
In an area where water is typically found at 800-1000 feet, the Lord’s mercy provided ample water at just 200 feet, meeting all the construction needs.
The Lord protected His devotees throughout the temple’s construction, granting them strength and determination to complete this divine mission.

The Lord’s Grace, Power, and
Mercy in Building His Temple

When devotees began the temple project, they had no funds or influential contacts. Yet, by the grace of the Lord, a magnificent ₹20 crore Golden Temple has been brought to life.
Despite numerous challenges during construction, the Lord’s mercy ensured a smooth process with no delays or accidents. He empowered His devotees with the strength and resources needed to complete this monumental task. This temple is a testament to the Supreme Lord’s boundless power and mercy.

Who Built the Temple?

The Divine Journey of Devotion and Dedication
Harekrishna
Building a temple is no ordinary task. It demands not just funds, talent, and materials, but also unwavering faith and social support. Yet, this incredible achievement was made possible through the powerful potency of the Holy Name of Lord Hari.
At the site, devotees chanted the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra daily, completing the sacred offering of Dasha Koti Harinama (100 million holy names). By the mercy of the Holy Names, the temple rose with remarkable discipline and divine guidance.
This sacred project was executed under the inspiration and guidance of Parampara Acharya, Om Vishnupada Paramahamsa Parivrajakacharya 108 Sri Srimad A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada. His divine teachings made this complex task seem as simple as crossing water contained in a calf’s hoofprint. Despite the challenges of building on sensitive land and balancing tradition with modern technology, the Lord’s mercy and Srila Prabhupada’s teachings ensured the project’s success.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada and the devoted souls who turned this divine vision into reality!

The Arrival of the Unique
Saligrama at the Kshetram

While the devotees were engaged in the construction of the temple, a remarkable and highly auspicious event took place. A devotee family, Sri Boorgu Venkateshwara Rao and his dharmapatni Smt. Radha, brought a unique and divine Saligrama Shila to be placed in the Kshetram, offering a rare opportunity for devotees to have darshan of this sacred Deity.
The arrival of this Saligrama was not by chance but by the divine order of His Holiness Sri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetam Sringeri Ananthasri Vibhushita Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Maha Sannidhanam, who instructed the devotee to place the Saligrama in a temple in Hyderabad.
