SIGNIFICANCE OF VAIKUNTA EKADASHI

Hare Krishna Golden Temple will observe Sri Vaikuntha Ekadashi on 30th December 2025 at both Hare Krishna Golden Temple and Hare Krishna Heritage Tower.

Vaikuntha Ekadashi is a highly significant festival that is celebrated annually. While Ekadashi, the eleventh day of the waxing or waning moon, occurs twice each month, the Ekadashi that falls in the month of Margashirsha (December – January) during the waxing moon is especially revered and is known as Vaikuntha Ekadashi.

On this auspicious day, the gates of Vaikuntha, the divine abode of Lord Vishnu, are said to open to His most devoted followers. This festival holds great importance, particularly in South India, and is celebrated with grandeur in Vishnu temples across the region.

Devotees of Lord Vishnu observe the Ekadashi Vrata, engage in chanting His Holy Names, and sing His divine glories. On this day, Nammalwar, a distinguished devotee in the Sri Sampradaya (the disciplic lineage descending from Lakshmi Devi), attained liberation. A special entrance to Vaikuntha, known as the Vaikuntha Dwara, is created in all Vishnu temples to commemorate this sacred occasion. It is believed that those who enter the Vaikuntha Dwara on this day are assured of attaining Vaikuntha, the supreme spiritual realm.

To please the Lord on this sacred occasion of Vaikuntha Ekadashi, you may:

  • Visit your nearby Vishnu or Krishna temple to seek the Lord's blessings.
  • Chant the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra as much as possible.
  • Read the Bhagavad-Gita and connect with the Lord through His divine teachings.
  • Observe the Ekadashi fast and distribute prasadam to others.

Join us in the grand celebrations at the Hare Krishna Golden Temple and Hare Krishna Heritage Tower temples, and receive abundant blessings from the Lord of Vaikuntha.
