About Us
The Akshaya Patra Foundation is a non-profit organisation committed to eradicating hunger and malnutrition among school children in India. Established in 2000, our mission is to provide nutritious, hygienic, and wholesome mid-day meals to children in government and government-aided schools. By addressing classroom hunger, we aim to improve educational outcomes, reduce dropout rates, and promote holistic development.
As the world’s largest NGO-run school meal program, Akshaya Patra works in close partnership with the Government of India, state governments, corporations, and philanthropists to make a lasting impact on millions of children’s lives.

Our Meal Program
Akshaya Patra’s Mid-Day Meal Program is implemented through two types of kitchens:
Centralised Kitchens
- Large-scale state-of-the-art facilities designed for urban and semi-urban areas.
- Advanced technology ensures hygienic and efficient food preparation.
- Can produce up to 100,000 meals per day.
Centralised Kitchens
- Community-run kitchens in remote rural areas where infrastructure is limited.
- Operated by trained women self-help groups, promoting women empowerment.
Nutritional Value
Every meal is designed to provide balanced nutrition, including:
- Rice/Chapati – Source of carbohydrates
- Dal/Sambar – Rich in proteins
- Vegetables – Essential vitamins and minerals
Our Initiatives
In addition to the Mid-Day Meal Program, Akshaya Patra runs several initiatives to uplift communities:
1. Feeding Programs Beyond Schools
Anganwadi Feeding – Providing meals to pregnant women, lactating mothers, and toddlers.
Disaster Relief Feeding – Serving food to affected communities during natural calamities.

Smart Classrooms & E-Learning Modules to bridge the digital divide.
3. Women Empowerment
Training and employing women from underprivileged backgrounds in kitchen operations.

The Akshaya Patra
Foundation At Kandi
The Akshaya Patra Foundation, in collaboration with Infosys Foundation, inaugurated a state-of-the-art mega centralised kitchen in Kandi, Sangareddy, Telangana, on March 30, 2018. This facility, spanning 64,438 square feet, is designed to prepare and distribute mid-day meals to over 100,000 school children across the region daily.
Key Features of the Kandi Kitchen:
Advanced Infrastructure:Equipped with modern cooking technologies, the kitchen ensures the preparation of hygienic and nutritious meals efficiently.
Strategic Location: Situated in Kandi, Sangareddy district, the facility is well-placed to serve numerous schools in the surrounding areas.
Collaborative Effort:
The establishment of this kitchen was made possible through a generous grant of INR 18.50 crores from Infosys Foundation, covering the entire construction cost.
Operational Excellence:
The kitchen operates with a focus on maintaining high standards of cleanliness and efficiency, ensuring that children receive fresh and healthy meals every school day.
